Qualitative Data Analysis Software Options
NVivo: U of T currently subscribes to the latest few versions of NVivo. Use our NVivo software license request form to get a license key. Consult our getting started guide for NVivo for tutorials, resources, and workshop recordings to help you get started using the software.
New in 2026 - MAXQDA: We also now provide a license for MAXQDA and have a getting started guide for MAXQDA.
However, there are a number of other alternatives you can also consider; however you will need to purchase your own copy (except for LibreQDA, QualCoder, and Taguette, which are all free):
- ATLAS.ti [Note: Lumivero, who makes NVivo, has recently acquired ATLAS.ti]
- Dedoose [Note: You can take Dedoose Workshops at a cost, offered by OISE]
- Delve
- LibreQDA (free, open source) [Note: This is the Canadian version of Taguette with some additional features]
- QDA Miner
- QualCoder (free, open source) [Some QualCoder learning resources offered by Temple University Libraries]
- Quirkos
- Taguette (free, open source)
