MAXQDA TeamCloud

MAXQDA’s TeamCloud add-on provides cloud storage and integrations with MAXQDA in order to work on a shared project file. One person would be the team lead and would create, upload, and share a MAXQDA project with collaborators by inviting them to the project. Teammates would download and open the project file and work on their local copy from within MAXQDA. Then they would upload their completed work for the team lead, again from within MAXQDA. The team lead would be notified when work is ready and would then import in the changes. Once all the changes are imported into the project, the team lead could start another cycle/round of coding, as needed, until the work is done. All team members need a free MAXQDA account in order to use TeamCloud. (Note that it is best for team leads and team members to always work from their same work/personal computer. You can only switch computers between cycles. For example, this means if you start working on a team project on your personal laptop at home, you will have problems if halfway through a cycle you want to switch to working on the team project from your work computer.)

There are currently no plans for U of T Libraries to subscribe to MAXQDA TeamCloud, but individual researchers could purchase an annual subscription to use with teams. It costs roughly $220 USD for up to 4 team members (plus a team lead) for an annual subscription.

Generally as U of T students and researchers already have access to cloud storage, the only benefit for purchasing this add-on is to help with file/workflow management. The project files are NOT auto synchronized. The team lead still has to manually import in the changes, but the system guides the user. For those familiar with Collaboration Cloud for NVivo 14 & 15, this is different, as that tool does advertise auto synchronization.
