2. Dataset Setup

In order to begin making visualizations, you must import a dataset into Tableau (such as an Excel spreadsheet) or select a sample dataset from Tableau Desktop (such as those located in the bottom left of the page as you open Tableau Desktop). For the purposes of this guide, you can download the datasets we will be using for this tutorial in a zip file. You will then need to extract the files from the zip file.

Note: Different computers have different setups for extracting all the files from a zip file. On Windows, you should be able to right click and select Extract All… Look at where the files are extracting and click on Browse if you need to adjust it. Then select Extract. On a Mac, just double-click on the file to extract its files.
